Area 9 assists people in leading independent, meaningful, and dignified lives in their own homes and communities to avoid premature or inappropriate nursing facility placement. Services are provided to clients in their homes by providers, administered by Area 9.

Christ Renews His Parish

Christ Renews His Parish is a weekend retreat held in the spring and fall. Women and men retreats are held on separate weekends. Participants experience spiritual grown and service with other parishioners in a program designed to bring parishioners together for community experience and the opportunity to respond more fully and totally to the Lord’s call. CRHP is a way for our tri-parish community to grow in love and service for our larger community of brothers and sisters in Christ. The retreat is directed for parishioners by parishioners.
Service Opportunities: Set up and tear down for the weekend. Help serve meals. Pray in adoration chapel. Participate in candle vigil.
Hours: Weekends are scheduled for November 4/5 and 11/12, 2006 and March 3/4 and 17/18, 2007. Set up is on the Friday before the retreat immediately after school. Tear down is around 4:00 pm on the Sunday afternoon of the retreat. Meal service and adoration times are available throughout the weekend.
Community Blood Center

The Community Blood Center recruits blood donors to help cover the blood supply needed in 25 area hospitals. One pint will save three lives.

Habitat for Humanity of Richmond

Habitat for Humanity lives out its Christian mission by working in partnership with eligible families and volunteers to build homes for low income members of our community, to help end poverty housing conditions. In 2006, Habitat is building 6 homes in the Richmond area. Over 2,000 hours of volunteer labor are contributed to each home built. Volunteers help with nearly every aspect of building the home from site preparation to the final touches of paint. Likewise, volunteers are vital in family selection, family support, fundraising, and other key elements of the organization. Additionally, partner families contribute over 350 hours of “sweat equity” helping to build their own homes and those of others.
Service Opportunities: Construction Volunteer: Help in building, site preparation, site cleanup, and other ways to build homes in partnership with our Partner Families. Individual and group building opportunities are available. Age restrictions apply to operation of power equipment, roofing, working on ladders, etc.. Special Project Volunteer: Help organize a special event, a special building day, or other activity. Be involved planning the event, gaining the involvement of others, implementing the plans, or doing project follow-up and evaluation. Whether it’s an individual, one-time event or a series, you can make an important impact on the work of Habitat. Cans for Habitat Volunteer: Research, plan, organize, and implement a Cans for Habitat program. Help us explore whether we could establish an aluminum can recycling efforts in the Richmond area. Other volunteer opportunities: Have another interest or want to put other skills to use? Just give us a call and share your ideas, interests, or skills and we’ll see if we can establish a special opportunity to match your interests with our needs.

Assemblies of God, inner-city mission church serving the poor and addicted of the downtown Richmond community.
Service Opportunities: Serving two free meals every week, one at 12:30 pm Sundays and another at 4:30 pm Tuesdays. Opportunities for preparation, serving, and clean up on Sundays and mostly clean up on Tuesdays. Also, several projects (cleaning, painting, moving) that could be scheduled for larger groups.
